The Oakland Fire Department welcomes a New Junior Fireman, Nick Pruiksma. The Fire Department Junior Program is for anyone between the ages of 16 and 18. As a junior member you can go to the Bergen County Fire Academy and take the Firefighter One class in its entirety. Some of the highlights of the class are live burn in the smoke house, ladder training, hazmat training and cpr certification. Once you complete the course and reach 18 years of age, you have the requirements to become a regular member of the fire department. It's a commitment, but it is worthwhile because you are giving back to your community. You will also gain life experience and the fulfillment of serving others.
