| Oakland, NJ - May 24 - Most people associate Memorial Day with remembering the fallen heroes of America's wars and express their gratitude to the surviving veterans.
However, many consider the sacrifice of any person in uniform, especially those in the fire service are not to be forgotten.
Oakland offers a separate ceremony honoring fallen firefighters.
Prayers, Color Guard, a silent and somber remeberance, and the reading of the names of those now dead firefighters are read aloud. The sounding of a bell punctuating each name as it is read. |
