Man Down Drill

By Photographer Jim DeLillo
March 31, 2009

The members of the fire department turned out for a Man Down Drill. The night's training focused on the proper search technique to locate a downed firefighter in low visibility.

The members modified their face mask by placing a sheet of foil inside so that were effectively blindfolded.

Entering the building they crawled on all fours in teams of two guiding their progress by feeling the walls and hoseline. They constantly swept back and forth in attempt to find the downed victim. Each team focused on correct technique, safety, and the objective of rescuing the victim.

The teams were debriefed and critiqued after the evolutions.
