| Immediately after the Shield Awards, the Oakland FD responded to the lower lot of Ramapo Mountain State Forest on Skyline Drive to assist in the Search and Resuce of a lost hiker. The 50 year old woman had been accidentally separated from her hiking partner and was reported missing to the Oakland Police. The Park Police were notified and a search began.
Darkness prompted the Park Police to request assitance from the Oakland FD. Chief Pete Sondervan set up a command center with the Oakland Police, Ambulance Corps, and OEM. Helicopters were requested but had arrived on scene just as audible contact was made with the victim, so were requested to stand-by downrange.
The hiker was found, unharmed and in good spirits, and joyfully re-united with her hiking partner. |
