Oakland Volunteer Fire Department
Presidents Message
The Oakland Volunteer Fire Department has been in existence since 1909. When the fire department was originally organized the equipment used included a horse drawn pumper, which we still have today and is kept as one of our Antique Parade units. The fire department now includes the most up to date modern equipment available with all personnel required to meet rigorous training requirements.
The fire department is a volunteer organization that will respond to any needs of our local citizens, or calls from other communities. Through the years we have been called countless times for mutual aid help out of the area, which included the first incident in 1993 at the World Trade Center in New York City.
Today’s fire Department includes both men and women, young and old, we have junior members under the age of 18, up to and including an active member that has been on the fire department for over 50 years.
The volunteer fire department is a group of dedicated personnel that is part of the community, always available 24/7 - 365 days a year. Part of the Fire Department includes the association organization, of which I am proud to be President of. The association is the other part of being a volunteer. It is the social side. It includes activities that are not fire or emergency related. Being a fireman is not only putting out fires, for anyone dedicated to it, it is a way of life.
Thank you for visiting our web site. We hope you have enjoyed the experience. We are also always open for new members. If you are from another town, consider volunteering in your town. Your local Fire department is a great organization to volunteer in, both for ones own self and to help the community. Part of being an American is to volunteer as it keeps the country strong.
Thanks Again,
President Daniel D'Elia
