| The Oakland Fire Department was dispatched at 07:45 for a car fire on I-287 north over Route 202. Upon arrival of Engine 1031, the crew advanced one line to the vehicles engine compartment, which was fully involved. Once Engine 1034 arrived on scene their crew went to work forcing the hood open to make the fire more accessible. Also operating at the scene was Rescue 1042, which was used to closed down the acceleration lane from the ramp leading onto I-287N from West Oakland Avenue, as well as closing down the right lane of the highway. Due to the extreme cold temperatures Utility Truck 1044 was brought to the scene for fresh manpower. Assisting the fire department with traffic control was the Oakland Police and the New Jersey State Police. Once the fire was extinguished the New Jersey Department of Transportation responded to sand down the roadway due to the icing conditions. All fire department units were back in service within an hour of the dispatch. |
