On Wednesday, March 9th the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department welcomed its newest junior member when Makenzie Vulgaris took her Oath of office at the Council Meeting. Makenzie, who was joined by her father Jimmy, was sworn in by Mayor Linda Schwager.

To be a junior firefighter you must be at least 16 years old, be a U.S. Citizen, be in good physical condition, be a legal resident of Oakland for a minimum of six months and have not been convicted of a felony. Once accepted, you will need to complete an 18 week basic Firefighters course - Firefighter 1 - at the Bergen County Fire Academy in Mahwah.

For more information, and an application for membership, come to the Yawpo Ave firehouse any Monday night at 7:00 PM and ask to speak to one of the our Chiefs or Officers.
