On Saturday, October 31st, members of the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department participated in Town festivities celebrating Halloween by starting their day handing out goodies at the annual children’s Halloween parade that took place around Veterans Park and the Oakland Library. About 300 children attended the event which featured a costume parade and a Trick or Trunk among some very scary decorated classic cars. Firefighters Dan D’Elia and John Madden brought the Department’s 1954 Ward La France 750 GPM pumper to the event and decorated it to the children’s delight, while Fireman Cesar Arredando and his family treated the young paraders to candy from their truck decorated as a large mouth with giant teeth and ten foot tongue.

Later in the evening, members of Company 2, led by Dan D'Elia, hosted a hot dog giveaway to about 70 people who stopped by for a bite to eat as they trick or treated in the area. We even had a few of our friendly pets stop by looking for a fallen hot dog to eat. Despite receiving 3 fire service calls during the evening’s event all guests who stopped by were well fed and it was a safe and fun place to be.

Spook you all next year.
