On Friday, April 10th our newest piece of equipment rolled into Oakland as Fire Chief Curt LeRoy delivered the new 1034, a Pierce Velocity pumper truck was delivered to Company 2. The new state of the art pumper truck will replace our current 1034 which is over 20 years old.

The new Pierce Velocity pumper has a 2,000 GPM tank as well as many upgraded safety features and equipment that were specifically designed to meet the terrain and type of usage that the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department respond to. This new 1034 meets the strict standards of the department and will add to the safety of our community due to the advances in technology. Some of these features are:

- 360° Protection from every angle is standard
- Quick access service hood
- Visibility – single piece windshield
- Thickest firewall in the industry to keep firefighters safe and reduce noise
- Pierce’s exclusive PS6® seats for comfort and safety
- Big power, up to 600 HP engines
- TAK-4® Independent Front Suspension for smooth ride and better braking performance
- Larger, deeper door handles accommodate a gloved hand to make entry and exit safer and quicker
- Frontal & Side Roll Protection system available for enhanced firefighter safety

The new 1034 has not been officially placed into service yet because it must be outfitted with hoses, various pieces of equipment and radios tuned into Oakland’s Low/High band frequencies. The truck should be officially in service in approximately 3 weeks.

The members of the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the Governing Body and the Residents of Oakland for their continued support in our efforts to keep Oakland the safest town in New Jersey.
