On Saturday, February 28th, the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department recently hosted Oakland Daisy Troop 96487 and gave the girls and their parents a tour of the Company 1 firehouse.

The tour was led by Oakland Volunteer Firefighter Don Harvey who also serves the community as a Policeman for the Borough. Fireman/Officer Harvey spoke to the girls about what it takes to become a member of the all-volunteer fire department, demonstrated various pieces of equipment for them and explained fire safety and talked to the Daisy Troop about how they can help Mom and Dad to create a plan in the event of an emergency and how to hold a fire drill at their homes. Fireman Joshua Berrian put on his turnout gear and explained what the different parts of his gear are and how they protect him when he uses them to fight a fire.

OVFD Chief Curt LeRoy, Fireman David O’Conner and Fireman in training Sean Torpey were also on hand and assisted Fireman/Officer Harvey with this event.
