For the second strait year, the Indian Hills Braves Softball team captured the Group 3 State championship title with an impressive and record setting win over Ewing 8-5 on Saturday, June 7th. This is the crown on top of the cake as the Lady Braves won the Bergen County title beating parochial powerhouse Immaculate Heart Academy, won the Group 3 Sectional title and now the overall Group 3 State title.

Record setting because the Lady Braves have become the first team is New Jersey history to finish as champions undefeated at 34-0. Impressive because they continued their strong play off of last year’s State Finals victory and have been a dominate force capturing their third State title in the last five years.

Clearly this is a team for the ages. On a day where California Chrome could not end the 36 year drought for horse racing triple crown, on a day when the Rangers suffered a heartbreaking double overtime loss to the Kings, our Lady Braves would not be denied. After taking an early 4-0 lead, Ewing fought back to tie the game at 4 ? Then in the bottom of the 4th Shelby Allen continued her hot play by delivering a 3 run double and the Braves would take a 7-4 lead and not look back from there. Final score Oakland 8 - Ewing 5. Let the celebration begin.

Members of the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department, Oakland First Aid Squad, Franklin Lakes and Wyckoff fire departments proudly led a parade through the three towns in celebration of the Lady Braves championship.

Congratulations to Coach Leicht, the assistant coaches and the team on a wonderful and memorable season. We are extremely proud of the work that you, your coaching staff and the Lady Braves put in to bring this championship home once again.
