The Oakland Fire Department welcomed Boy Scout Troop 369 to Company #1 as they worked on their Fire Safety Merit Badge. The merit badge process took three weeks to for the boys to complete. The boys learned about the "Fire Tetrahedron", frequent causes of fire in the home, holiday related fires and home escape plans. The boys also got an opportunity to practice how to crawl out of a smoke filled room and how to test the door to see if there is a fire on the other side before opening the door. They also learned how to put out a pan fire as well as how to use the different types of fire extinguishers. The program ended with a tour of the fire house and an explanation of the apparatus. Thank you to FF Chuck Hoering and Jr FF Jon Stammer for their assistance in teaching this program to Troop 369.
