| The Oakland Fire Department hosted "Fire Prevention Night" on Monday night 10/10/11. The evening opened up with the presentation of awards by Chief Knapp for the winners of the poster contest. This contest is held between the 3 public schools grades K-5. Once that was completed the department showed everyone the brand new rescue truck that arrived 2 weeks ago. The men then held a demonstration of the rescue tools cutting open a motor vehicle as we would on a motor vehicle accident. Firefighters then showed the public how the thermal imaging camera (TIC) works. While all of this was going on the children had an opportunity to spray the fire houses at mock houses. This is always a big hit with the kids. Also on attending for the public to ask questions and see their equipment were the Oakland First Aid Squad, Oakland Police Department and the NJ State Police. The Oakland Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary served refreshments to everyone. Always another big hit with the kids. A big thank you needs to out to Lt. Vincent Dies for coordinating this entire event and also all the members that attended to help make this evening a success. |
