| This year will be a Memorial day to remember. The Oakland Fire Department will raise flag that was flown in a mission in Afghanistan. An American Flag from Oakland FD was taken to Afghanistan by SGM Robert Haemmerle in early March 2011. The flag was flown on 20 March 2011 on a combat mission over Afghanistan by the 389th Fighter Squadron "Thunder Bolts" in a F-15E "Strike Eagle" supporting "Operation Enduring Freedom" in honor of the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department. A very special flag changing ceremony will take place on Sunday March 27th at the memorial in front of the Conpany 1 firehouse. The following members took place in the ceremony:
A very special thanks goes out to SGM Robert Haemmerle (who is also a Honary Chief of the Oakland Fire Dept,) for making this happen. See you in July! |
