| The OFD performed live fire training at the Bergen County Fire Academy. The exercise included several evolutions such as engine and ladder operations, advancing dry/charged hand lines, primary and secondary searches, emergency evacuation and ladder to tower entry.
The drill began with lighting several pallets and bails of hay on fire to create the smoke and heat experienced in an actual fire. As the materials burned, the smoke intensified to a point where visibility was virtually gone while the heat built up to several hundred degrees.
We worked our way into the building and advanced up the tower from floor to floor using thermal cameras searching for simulated victims.
Special thanks to Asst. Chief & Training Officer Pat Kellett for scheduling the training at the academy and also thanks to the Bergen County Fire Instructors.
