At approximately 0028 hrs the Oakland Fire Department was dispatched to a MVA with a fuel leak. The First to arriving Chiefs 1050, AC LeRoy & 1030 Chief Knapp found a tractor trailer wedged up against the sound barrier wall. The trucks passenger side saddle tank was leaking diesel fuel at a steady pace. Rescue 1042, Eng's 1032 & 1034 arrived and were instructed to build dykes in front of all of the storm drains to prevent the fuel from getting into the drainage system. It was determined that the leaking saddle tank was not reachable by the firefighters, it was also determined that that tank had approximately 125 gallons of fuel on board. At that time 1030 had Mahwah Haz-Mat dispatched to the scene. Mahwah arrived and continued to contain the leaking fuel. Once the wrecker arrived it was positioned at the front of the truck and pulled it off the wall, this allowed firefighter to access the leaking tank and stop the leak. Bergen County was also summoned to the scene and the NJDEP was notified. The Oakland First Aid Squad transported the driver of the truck to a local hospital. The scene was secured and all firefighters were released at 0330 hrs.
