On Wednesday, January 13 at approximately 10:20 am the Fire Department was called to 9 Sienna Way for a smoke condition in the basement. The Oakland Police Department arrived and confirmed a working dryer fire. 1030 Chief Knapp assumed command and activated Norcon for a second alarm while 1050 Asst Chief LeRoy had Operations.
Engine 1031 was first due and immediately went to work by venting the basement window and utilizing a water can to hit the visible flames. The other crew members of 1031 pulled a hand line to the C side of the home to attack the fire in the laundry room. The hose team entered through heavy smoke conditions in the basement and quickly knocked down the dryer fire.
Franklin Lakes Engine 335 and Wyckoff Ladder 241 assisted with ventilation and overhaul. Quick thinking and an excellent attack plan saved this home.
