On Saturday, January 20th, members of Troop 49 Tiger Cubs paid a visit to Company 1 to learn all about fire safety and fire fighting from several members of the OVFD.

The Tiger Cubs were provided with demonstrations about fire safety, the proper use of smoke alarms, what to do if a fire occurred in their homes or schools, when to Stop - Drop - and Roll, and how Thermal Cameras work and what the firefighters use them. The Tigers were also given a tour of the fire house, shown how to spot and avoid conditions in your kitchen, such as flammable materials like rags of boxes left by burners, how the placement of pot handles can help or hurt you and how placing combustible materials in areas of your basement could pose safety hazards.

After a fantastic fire prevention session the members of the OVFD took the Tiger Cubs into the bays to show the Scouts our fire trucks, the various pieces of equipment that carry and what the equipment is used for.

The members of the OVFD would like to thank the Pack 49 Tiger Cubs, their Scout Leaders and parents for allowing us to provide them with valuable fire prevention information and for the wonderful refreshments they brought us.

Thank you to firefighters Cesar Arredondo, Riley Beach, Jeff Binder, Mike Curran, Lee Dodd and Robert Knapp who helped out with various parts of this visit.
