On Thursday, December 15th, Oakland Volunteer Firefighter Charlie Kelly put on a new uniform and badge as he became Oakland's newest Police Officer joining the ranks as he graduated from the Bergen County Police Academy.

Office Kelly was sworn in as a police recruit by Mayor Schwager at the July 13th Council meeting and entered the Academy shortly thereafter. Officer Kelly is not the first policeman in his family as his brother George is a Detective Sargent with the Haledon Police Department.

Charlie has been a member of the OVFD since 2003 and has held several leadership positions including most recently Assistant Chief of Company 1 in 2013. All of the members of the OVFD wish Charlie all of the best with his new role in our Borough.
