By Firefighter Doug Hansen
October 29, 2011

Heavy snowfall on trees that have not yet lost their summer foliage caused for a very busy weekend in the Borough, causing very dangerous road conditions, taking trees and powerlines down across town, and causing a few transformers to explode. The Fire Department spent almost the entire day of Saturday and a good amount of time Sunday responding to various fire alarms, burning powerlines and transformers, and a working structure fire in Franklin Lakes. Members of the department spent the whole storm away from their own homes, sacrificing work on their own property in order to keep the rest of town safe, and on their own time, many members went around town Sunday to help the DPW cut up and clear many of the trees from the roadways around town. The storm may have been worse than expected, but Oakland's First Responders were there for the residents.

Units: 1030, 1040, 1050, 1031, 1032, 1034, 1041, 1044
